Vinyl Flooring
What is Vinyl flooring?
Vinyl flooring, also known as resilient flooring, has been a favourite flooring choice for bathrooms and kitchens for
many decades.
What advantages does Vinyl flooring have?
Vinyl floors offer the advantage of a no-wax surface that is also scuff-resistant and abrasion-resistant. Vinyl flooring
is extremely easy to clean and in most cases is a long-lasting, durable product that will retain its appearance for
years. Vinyl flooring also has the advantage of being one of the least expensive types of flooring.
However, there is a wide range in quality of vinyl flooring products and consumers should be aware that low-cost
vinyl flooring may not stand the test of time.
How durable is Vinyl flooring?
What determines the quality of a vinyl floor is the construction methods used in making the product. Most vinyl
flooring includes a protective 'wear layer' on the surface that is made of vinyl or urethane, which covers the printed
image underneath. Those layers are then fused to a backing that is usually made from some formulation of vinyl.
The combination of ingredients in the wear layer and the backing will determine the floor's look as well as its
durability, and manufacturers have a wide range of trademarked products that go into these layers.
What sizes does Vinyl come in?
Vinyl flooring is available in rolled sheets that are 6 or 12 feet wide, and in vinyl tiles that are either glued down or
come with an adhesive backing.
